Nevermined, a U.S.-based agentic commerce infrastructure company, has launched an integration that combines Visa Intelligent Commerce with x402 – the internet-native payments protocol developed by Coinbase. This partnership aims to enable artificial intelligence agents to purchase digital goods and services autonomously on behalf of users and businesses.

Merchant payments will continue to flow through existing payment service providers like Stripe, without necessitating additional integration efforts.

In this system, Visa cardholders can opt to enroll their Visa cards via the Visa Intelligent Commerce interface and authorize AI agents to spend within predefined parameters. These rules include total budget limits, per-purchase caps, merchant restrictions, and time-based validity windows. Throughout the transaction process, sensitive cardholder data remains protected through VGS secure vault infrastructure.

Monetizing Digital Content with AI Agents

This integration addresses a significant commercial challenge for publishers, data providers, and digital service companies: the increasing consumption of content and data by AI agents on the internet. Historically, these businesses lacked practical mechanisms to monetize individual asset usage by machines over human users.

With Nevermined’s new solution, AI agents can request and pay for distinct digital assets such as single articles, dataset queries, or specific API responses using x402. Payment processing occurs via the merchant’s existing infrastructure. Economic orchestration, policy enforcement, and metering are handled by Nevermined within the transaction path.

The solution supports a wide range of AI agents built with leading frameworks without requiring a proprietary development environment.

Commenting on this advancement, Don Gossen, Co-Founder of Nevermined, emphasized that the integration brings autonomous agentic commerce to life. Tanner Riche, Vice President of AI Partnerships at Visa, added that Visa Intelligent Commerce is designed to facilitate safe transactions for AI agents while providing clear control mechanisms in internet-native environments.
