Zeller, a company based in Australia, has recently entered the UK market to offer small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) an all-in-one payments and financial management solution.

This move aims to make Zeller’s integrated platform accessible to the UK’s vast SME community—approximately 5.7 million businesses. The launch is occurring during a period when operational costs are on the rise, coupled with increasing customer expectations for reliable checkout experiences.

According to research by Zeller and Foresight Factory, poor checkout experiences contribute significantly to consumer abandonment rates, amounting to an estimated annual loss of GBP 22.7 billion in potential payments. This underscores the importance of a seamless payment process for businesses.

Zeller’s platform is designed to streamline various business functions that are typically managed through multiple providers—such as payments processing, point-of-sale systems, invoicing, accounting, card issuance, and expense management—all into one cohesive account. It differentiates itself by providing a unified solution for SMEs that previously had to operate across separate platforms.

In terms of onboarding, Zeller highlights its streamlined process as a key feature. The hardware component of the UK launch includes the introduction of Zeller Terminal, which was previously used in Australia. During pre-launch testing, over 100 UK businesses expressed interest and signed up to use the platform.

Expansion and Market Dynamics

Currently supporting more than 100,000 businesses in Australia, Zeller is now expanding into the UK market. The UK remains a key focus due to its active ecosystem for payments infrastructure development. Various domestic and international providers are competing for SME merchant accounts.

The regulatory landscape governing payment services and electronic money institutions continues to influence entry conditions for fintechs in this segment.
