UnionPay International (UPI) and Worldpay have extended their decade-long partnership to enhance payment security and create a smoother transaction experience for UnionPay cardholders.

Boosting Online Payment Security and Efficiency

The expansion will enable the use of UnionPay 3DS and ExpressPay solutions, aiming to secure online transactions while simplifying the checkout process.

UnionPay International and Worldpay seek to broaden the global acceptance of UnionPay cards by ensuring they are more widely used in key sectors like airlines, retail, hospitality, as well as other regions such as the US, UK, and Europe.

Nabil Manji, Head of Fintech Growth and Financial Partnerships at Worldpay, noted that since their partnership began in 2015, both companies have strived to offer a range of simplified payment options with enhanced security.

Through the integration of ExpressPay, UnionPay cardholders will enjoy faster transaction processing, reducing checkout steps and potentially boosting conversion rates for merchants.

Larry Wang, CEO of UnionPay International, highlighted that Worldpay’s extensive global network can help increase the number of ways UnionPay cardholders can choose to pay.

Notably, this collaboration follows a recent pilot launch by UnionPay International, in partnership with Alipay and other organizations, facilitating cross-border QR payment interoperability between China and Indonesia. During the trial phase, selected users from both countries were able to make transactions at participating merchants in their respective markets using multiple digital wallets.
