EPI has launched Wero, an ecommerce payment solution in Belgium, with Ahold Delhaize, LIDL, and Bpost among the initial participants.

In line with this launch, EPI announced the first merchants to accept Wero for online purchases. Belgium now serves as the second market to adopt Wero for ecommerce payments following Germany, where the feature was introduced late in 2025. This rollout enhances Wero’s capabilities in Belgium by adding ecommerce functionality on top of existing P2P transfers and invoice payment options.

Key Merchants and Banking Partners

Merchants like Ahold Delhaize, Bpost, Just Russel, LIDL, Pairi Daiza, and Parfum Dreams have confirmed their plans to activate Wero for ecommerce in Belgium. These businesses join a list of those already onboarded in Germany, including Decathlon, Eventim, and Veepee. The full activation for these named merchants is anticipated by the end of 2026.

On the banking side, ING, KBC, and BNP Paribas Fortis are the primary financial institutions supporting Wero’s ecommerce solution in Belgium. Belfius is expected to join shortly. A broader rollout scheduled for the second half of 2026 will involve additional banks such as Argenta, Beobank, Bunq, Crelan, Revolut, and vdk bank among others.

EPI’s infrastructure operates through APIs, streamlining merchant onboarding while facilitating cross-border payment acceptance across all participating European markets with a single integration process.

European Expansion and Regulatory Insights

The Belgian launch is part of EPI’s wider strategy to introduce Wero for ecommerce in four additional markets this year, namely France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the transition from iDEAL to Wero has already begun.

According to a Kantar survey of 1,000 Belgian respondents, 65% expressed interest in using Wero for payments, with 20% confident they will use it. Additionally, 42% stated they predominantly use digital methods for online purchases and 41% believe mobile payment apps will become standard. Among younger consumers aged under 25, 57% are certain to adopt such solutions.

Beyond basic ecommerce transactions, EPI plans to integrate Wero into in-store payments, subscription billing, loyalty programs, and support instalment and consumption-based payment models to expand its commercial reach.
