Vista Bank has joined the national payment system RoPay, which enables instant peer-to-peer (P2P) money transfers in Romanian New Leu (RON), without the need to enter banking information.

RoPay now features P2P instant payments where beneficiaries can generate a QR code that payers can scan directly from their mobile banking apps. For this process, both parties must be nearby and have their respective mobile banking applications installed, with bank support for RoPay OR code instant payments.

Supporting the Digital Transformation

The adoption of RoPay among banks is supported by a joint effort made by the banking community and TRANSFOND. TRANSFOND works closely with all categories of payment service providers to digitalize the Romanian payment ecosystem, making it more transparent and efficient. RoPay offers an alternative to cash and card payments and is seen as a step towards everyday transactions becoming digitized.

RoPay was created by TRANSFOND in collaboration with the Romanian Banking Association. It’s currently available through the mobile banking apps of Romanian commercial banks, aiming to move payments from traditional methods like cash to digital ones, providing fast, free for individuals, and user-friendly services.

How P2P Payments Work on RoPay

In Vista Mobile Banking, users can receive and send money by generating a QR code. To use this feature, the recipient selects their account, enters the desired amount, and generates the QR code. The sender then scans the QR code using their app, verifies the payment details, and confirms the transaction.

The transaction amount can be fixed or editable; in the latter case, the payer can modify it after scanning the QR code. Integrating RoPay aligns with Vista Bank’s strategy to offer fast and secure solutions, facilitating instant money transfers between individuals within proximity. This move also emphasizes payment digitalization and expands interoperability within the Romanian banking system.

Vista Bank is planning to continue expanding RoPay with new features such as alias-based transfers, point-of-sale (POS) payments, e-commerce, bill payments, and more. To support this initiative, Vista Bank partnered with Getik, a leading Romanian technology company specializing in digital solutions for the banking industry.
