Visa and Pismo have joined forces with ABN AMRO to launch BUUT’s debit card, designed for Gen Z customers.
This collaboration resulted in the development of BUUT’s debit card within ten weeks using Pismo’s cloud-native platform. While BUUT provided essential insights and regulatory expertise, Pismo’s technology accelerated the process of creating a debit card tailored to digital-first consumers.
Features of BUUT’s Debit Card
BUUT operates as a digital-only bank without physical branches. This approach significantly reduces costs by up to 70% compared to traditional banking models. The card incorporates advanced AI and machine learning technologies for enhanced fraud detection, personalized user experiences, and automated customer service. These features contribute to higher retention rates among young users.
Regulatory adaptability is another key advantage that allows partnerships like this to mitigate compliance risks effectively.
Visa’s Role in Financial Innovation
The partnership reflects Visa’s commitment to offering innovative digital payment solutions and Open Banking services. The company aims to provide secure transaction options for both customers and merchants across Europe.
Stablecoin Prefunding Pilot
In September 2025, Visa initiated a pilot project at SIBOS that explored the use of stablecoins in cross-border payments. This initiative was part of ongoing efforts to test alternative funding models for international payouts, which are often subject to delays and require upfront capital tie-ups.
The pilot tested the use of stablecoins as a funding source for Visa Direct, Visa’s real-time payment service.
