Visa has recently partnered with Google Pay to enhance its fleet card offerings, introducing tokenization and push-to-wallet features that streamline the digital wallet ecosystem.

Addressing Long-Standing Challenges

The integration of tokenization and push-to-wallet capabilities aims to solve a significant issue where fleet data tags were previously tied to the plastic card chip. Through dynamic provisioning during the tokenization process, fleet data tags can now be efficiently provisioned into Google Pay. This allows for seamless transmission of Visa’s contactless specification, ensuring that both payment and fleet data are effectively communicated to point-of-sale systems.

Considering the global market, fleet expenses—covering corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and public sectors—are estimated at USD 1.4 trillion related to vehicle-related expenditures.

Improving End-User Experience

In the past, the manual and inconsistent experience for users had been a challenge, as existing fleet tokens did not work optimally with drivers due to inadequate instructions for prompting purchases or imposing restrictions at fuel POS terminals.

Through Visa’s tokenization features now available in Google Pay, several advantages can be enjoyed:

  • Dynamic provisioning: This process allows for rapid enablement of spending through digital credentials and support for card-on-file merchants, as well as the Click to Pay feature;
  • Optimal timing: This improves user experience by reducing time from just a few hours for digital wallet provisioning instead of waiting up to 7-14 days with traditional physical cards;
  • Broader compatibility: With global support for Apple Pay and Google Pay, approximately 92% of smartphones worldwide can now use Visa Fleet Tokenization based on global market share and NFC capabilities;
  • Collaborative efforts: Highnote, a modern card issuance platform, has been selected as an initial pilot partner to introduce tokenization and mobile wallet support for fleet cards. Collaboration between Visa and Highnote continues to modernize fleet payments through digital-first experiences.

Expanding Support for Stablecoins and Blockchain Networks

In August 2025, Visa has extended its stablecoin settlement capabilities by integrating additional digital assets and blockchain networks into its infrastructure. Specifically, the company now supports two new USD-backed stablecoins—Global Dollar (USDG) and PayPal USD (PYUSD)—along with a euro-backed EURC issued by Circle.
