Visa Direct has partnered with Moonrise, the payments infrastructure provided by Denmark’s Lunar bank, to enhance local payment capabilities in the Nordic region.
This collaboration allows Visa Direct to connect to domestic payment networks in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway through a unified API. The integration covers virtual accounts, pay-ins, and pay-outs across various local payment systems.
Building on an existing relationship between Lunar and Visa, this partnership transitions from standalone solutions to a more integrated and scalable payments ecosystem for Visa Direct customers looking to enter or grow their presence in the Nordic market. The integration enables clients to provide localized payment experiences efficiently, avoiding the need for multiple domestic integrations.
Navigating complexity with local payment rail access
The Nordic payments landscape features advanced but fragmented national infrastructures, each with its own distinct payment systems, regulations, and account structures. These differences pose challenges for businesses aiming to expand across the region.
Having direct access to local accounts and payment networks rather than relying on card or cross-border infrastructure is a key differentiator for global payment platforms operating in Europe.
The partnership aims to streamline the process, offering Visa Direct customers enhanced speed, reliability, and operational uniformity when entering Nordic markets.
Ken Villum Klausen, CEO and Founder of Lunar, highlighted that Moonrise simplifies local payment rail access, allowing global players to offer localized services and expand in the Nordics without facing the complexity of multiple domestic integrations. Philip Konopik, SVP and Head of Commercial and Money Movement Solutions at Visa Europe, added that this collaboration broadens Visa Direct’s collection capabilities by combining global reach with local Nordic infrastructure for clients needing both scale and regional consistency.
