Ubiqu has teamed up with Thales to introduce a solution integrating Ubiqu’s RSE technology and Thales Luna HSMs, aimed at supporting organizations that aim to build certified wallet infrastructure.

This collaboration streamlines the process of implementing European Digital Identity (EUDI) wallets. It enables businesses to become Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) within a few months under the eIDAS 2.0 framework, providing governments and service providers with sovereign infrastructure for secure digital identification across the European Union.

Facilitating the Deployment of EUDI Wallets

The partnership comes after the launch of eIDAS 2.0, which grants EU citizens and residents access to an EUDI wallet. By 2030, the European Commission anticipates that around 80% of Europeans will be using these wallets for various digital solutions, including eGovernment, banking, and healthcare.

To adhere to this new regulation, member states and QTSPs must deploy secure and certified wallet infrastructures. However, building such systems from scratch can be risky and complex. The alliance between Ubiqu’s RSE technology and Thales’ Luna HSMs creates a fully compliant environment for wallet innovation without these challenges.

The combined solution offers a ready-to-deploy RSE environment built on FIPS 140-3 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+ validated Thales Luna HSMs. This ensures all cryptographic keys and operations are certified, providing high scalability and availability.

The two companies aim to meet eIDAS High, WSCA/WSCD, and Article 30 trust list requirements, ensuring long-term resilience against evolving cybersecurity threats. Additionally, the solution is designed for open-source compatibility, integrating with popular wallets like the EU Reference Wallet.

Flexible deployment options are available across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises ecosystems, ensuring sovereign control while allowing governments to scale and maintain trust. Thales views digital trust as essential for a connected society, and this partnership aims to accelerate the secure adoption of post-quantum-ready Digital ID solutions.

As the EU moves towards widespread wallet adoption, sovereignty, certification, and interoperability are crucial. The collaboration between Ubiqu and Thales can play a vital role in creating a robust foundation for digital identity safety.
