Visa and Trip.com Group have introduced a global virtual travel card program through the fintech unit of Trip.com, named TripLink.
This initiative aims to serve both business-to-business (B2B) payment channels and enhance the overall traveler experience across the group’s platforms.
Initially launched in Singapore, this program is set to roll out further into markets such as the Netherlands and Hong Kong. Through this collaboration, Visa virtual card credentials will be integrated throughout Trip.com Group’s operations to streamline payment processes, reduce manual reconciliation efforts, and enhance data visibility for travel partners.
Enhancing B2B Payments and Platform-Wide Card Acceptance
Designed to address operational inefficiencies in the travel industry, particularly at the supplier and intermediary levels, this virtual card program seeks to improve payment reliability and expand card acceptance across booking platforms. This move is expected to reduce friction for all partners and users.
The initiative comes at a time when travel demand is rebounding in the Asia Pacific region, with 55% of consumers planning trips within the next six months, according to Visa’s research. Japan, China, and Australia are identified as top destinations for these travelers, and credit cards remain their preferred payment method due to security, global acceptance, and associated rewards.
This partnership aligns with a broader trend in travel fintech where payment infrastructure plays a critical role. Virtual card programs offer intermediaries better control over reconciliation processes, improved transaction data management, and reduced risk of fraud. As cross-border travel volumes recover, these factors have become more significant.
By integrating Visa’s virtual card credentials into TripLink’s system, the program aims to provide an immediate international reach, supporting Trip.com Group in serving both consumer and corporate travelers more effectively.
A representative from Visa mentioned that their objective is to reduce payment frictions within the global travel ecosystem. Meanwhile, a Trip.com Group spokesperson highlighted how this collaboration will deliver more efficient payment solutions for partners and customers globally.
