The UK government has released its 2025 Anti-Corruption Strategy, aimed at tackling corruption within the country and internationally.
Key Components of the Strategy
This strategy builds on previous efforts from 2017 to 2022, addressing modern threats to the nation’s economy, security, and democracy. It includes over 123 commitments focusing on:
- Fighting corrupt entities and their finances both domestically and internationally;
- Reducing vulnerabilities to corruption within the UK;
- Enhancing global resilience against corruption;
- Simplifying reporting mechanisms for potential corruption, including incentivizing whistleblowers;
- Cultivating a robust evidence base using beneficial ownership data for transparency purposes;
- Deploying artificial intelligence tools for detecting corruption and related activities.
The success of the strategy hinges on effective implementation. The UK government plans to concentrate on evidence-based measures, oversight mechanisms, and transparency to rebuild trust within the public sector and across all British businesses operating both locally and abroad.
Partnerships
To support its commitments, the UK will collaborate with various entities such as the Home Office, Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, HM Treasury, National Crime Agency, and Public Sector Fraud Authority.
In 2026, additional strategies will be unveiled, including an Anti-Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Strategy after completion of the Economic Crime Plan and a Fraud Strategy.
