The payment processing company Worldpay has introduced support for Apple’s Tap to Pay feature on iPhone for merchants using the SwipeSimple platform.

This capability allows businesses to accept contactless payments directly from an iPhone, eliminating the need for additional hardware or traditional payment terminals. By prompting customers to hold their contactless cards, Apple Pay, or compatible digital wallets near the merchant’s iPhone, transactions can be processed via Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology.

The integration leverages the existing security framework of iPhones, ensuring that card numbers and transaction information are not stored on the device or with Apple. This means businesses can handle payments securely without compromising privacy or security.

Enhancing In-Person Payment Flexibility

Worldpay officials note that the addition of Tap to Pay on iPhone provides merchants using SwipeSimple with more payment options, particularly benefiting service providers, local retailers, and small businesses who prefer mobile solutions.

The integration aligns with SwipeSimple’s goal of simplifying in-person transactions. It enables merchants to accept payments immediately after opting-in, utilizing devices they already own.

To use Tap to Pay on iPhone, Worldpay merchants can open the SwipeSimple app, input the payment amount, and present their iPhone to the customer. The customer then holds their card or device over the contactless symbol on the iPhone until the transaction is completed. For Store and Forward transactions, encrypted card details are temporarily stored on the device.

Tap to Pay on iPhone requires a compatible payment app and the latest version of iOS. This feature is now available for Worldpay merchants using SwipeSimple in supported regions.
