Science Card has introduced a platform that allows UK consumers to fund university research in healthcare, computing, and climate change through everyday spending with their Mastercard-powered debit card.
Users can create a free account and choose projects they want to support from a selection available on the platform. As they make purchases, Science Card will automatically round up the amounts and contribute these funds towards selected projects. Customers have the option to boost their contributions up to ten times and tailor donations for each project.
Foundational Mission
The UK stands as a leading nation in research and development with immense potential to advance fields like health, technology, and climate change,” stated Daniel Baeriswyl, PhD, Founder of Science Card. Our mission is to bridge the gap between science and financial services, giving people power over their sustainable future, and enabling them to drive game-changing advancements through everyday spending.”
The healthcare projects on offer via Science Card include research into kidney transplants and cervical cancer treatments. The company also announced support for a neurodegenerative diseases project at University College London’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, aiming for £499,955 in funding.
With its platform launched earlier this year, Science Card aims to reach over two million customers and fund millions in scientific research by 2028. The company plans to expand internationally, partnering with leading universities worldwide. Additionally, 10% of Science Card’s profits are directed toward its funded projects.
Mastercard continues to support innovative ventures like Science Card, as evidenced by its recent partnership with Baanx for a crypto debit card that allows conversion of cryptocurrencies in MetaMask wallets to fiat at the point of sale.
