Razorpay has integrated its payments infrastructure into OpenAI’s Codex coding platform and introduced a ChatGPT app for payment management.
In a move that bridges the gap between commerce and coding, Razorpay also launched an app within ChatGPT, allowing businesses to handle payment operations via conversational interfaces.
This integration is facilitated by Razorpay’s MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server. By connecting, developers can instruct Codex to create applications and set up payment collection as part of the same workflow, including checkout processes and payment processing, without needing separate configurations for a payment gateway. According to the company, this setup can be completed in less than five minutes.
Streamlining from code to commerce
For independent developers, early-stage startups, and student builders, this integration simplifies the process by eliminating the need to set up or configure separate payment systems before launch. Supported payment methods include UPI as well as all other options available through Razorpay’s gateway.
Through the ChatGPT app directory, businesses can now query their payment data using natural language prompts. Use cases highlighted in the announcement include reconciling payments against bank statements, tracking refund statuses, and monitoring settlement activities.
Agentic Payments and AI Commerce
The Codex and ChatGPT integrations follow Razorpay’s recent introduction of agentic payments in India. These allow AI systems to execute financial transactions autonomously, subject to predefined parameters.
These advancements reflect a strategic direction for Razorpay, positioning its payments infrastructure as an integral part of AI-driven development and commerce ecosystems. As AI tools reduce the complexity of building software products, embedding payment functionality at the outset addresses a gap that traditionally required separate management post-deployment.
This collaboration also underscores a broader industry trend where payments companies are integrating with AI platforms at the foundational level to enable revenue generation from the start rather than as an afterthought.
