PPRO has recently integrated Pix Automático into its platform to support recurring payments in Brazil, aligning with the nationwide rollout by the Central Bank. This addition marks a significant expansion of PPRO’s local payments services.

The integration comes on the heels of the official launch and builds upon the existing support for Brazil’s popular Pix payment system.

Developed by the Central Bank, Pix Automático introduces an automated recurring payments feature that allows users to authorize ongoing transactions such as subscriptions or utility bills with a one-time consent. This innovation simplifies payment processes for both consumers and merchants.

With over 60 million people in Brazil lacking credit cards, access to recurring services through this bank transfer-based system could contribute significantly to financial inclusion.

The integration is expected to impact a wide audience.

PPRO has made sandbox access and technical documentation for Pix Automático available to merchants and payment service providers. This enables smoother integration with minimal development time, leveraging existing infrastructure for local payments in Brazil.

According to officials at PPRO, the new functionality is crucial as recurring payments are becoming increasingly integral in Brazil’s evolving digital economy. By reducing transaction friction and potential subscription declines, this service could help merchants improve customer retention.

This move follows earlier efforts by PPRO to support local subscriptions solutions in high-growth markets.

Pix, launched in 2020, has become the dominant instant payment method in Brazil. It allows real-time transfers across financial institutions and is now used by approximately 174 million people, supporting over 836 million registered Pix Keys.

Over time, it has emerged as a primary payment method for roughly 33 million Brazilians.
