PayPal users can use links for sending payments or requests.

PayPal is rolling out a new feature that allows users to share payment links via text message, email, or direct messaging within its application.

Generating Payment Links

Within the app, users can input a payment amount and create a personalized, one-time-use link for transactions. A note can be added before sending this link through any preferred communication channel, such as chats.

Fund Transfer Mechanics

Affected recipients will see their PayPal accounts credited with the funds once they accept the payment. Senders have the option to revoke requests prior to acceptance; unclaimed links expire after 10 days.

Expansion Plans

The feature is initially available for U.S. users but is set for expansion into the UK, Italy, and other markets later in the month.

Crypto Payments Integration

In tandem with the Links launch, PayPal introduces support for sending cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and its own stablecoin PYUSD via links. This capability complements existing platforms such as Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Kraken, and OKX.

Strategic Synergy

Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, highlights the potential synergy between these initiatives. Users can share payment links seamlessly across global financial ecosystems, enhancing convenience in international transactions through systems like PayPal World, which integrates with platforms such as India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and China’s WeChat Pay.
