Paymentology, a global issuer-processor, and Change Financial, an Australian Mastercard Principal Issuer, have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance the adoption of card programmes for fintechs, digital banks, and programme managers in Australia.
This collaboration leverages Paymentology’s cloud-native, multi-cloud processing infrastructure with Change Financial’s local BIN sponsorship, scheme relationships, and regulatory expertise.
The joint initiative facilitates an easier pathway for fintech companies to launch or expand their debit, credit, and prepaid card programmes without having to separately set up local scheme connections and compliance frameworks. By virtue of its Mastercard Principal Issuer status, Change Financial provides the necessary in-market regulatory and scheme infrastructure, whereas Paymentology’s real-time processing platform manages the issuer-processing layer.
Overview of the Australian Payments Market
Australia is a highly advanced digital payments market. The national payments landscape was valued at around USD 849.1 billion by 2025 and is expected to grow to approximately USD 1.35 trillion by 2034, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.09% from 2026 to 2034. Cards and mobile wallets are integral parts of daily transactions, as evidenced by the fact that Australians made mobile wallet payments worth roughly USD 114 billion in the last year, highlighting strong demand for contactless and mobile-first payment methods.
The complex regulatory environment, existing scheme requirements, and high consumer expectations for digital payment experiences present significant challenges to fintechs entering the market. The partnership between Paymentology and Change Financial aims to address these by offering a consolidated solution encompassing key infrastructure components.
Minh Ha Truong, Head of Growth Asia Pacific at Paymentology, commented that this partnership combines cutting-edge issuing technology with local BIN sponsorship to expedite the adoption of payment methods for fintechs in Australia.
Jennifer Mateer, Chief Commercial Officer at Change Financial, added that their collaboration enables innovators to hasten their time-to-market and offer robust card payment experiences to Australian consumers and businesses.
