OCR Studio, an ID scanning solutions developer, recently unveiled IIRDoc-Net, a neural network that improves the recognition of IDs using 32% less computational power.
Application Across Devices
The advanced AI technology is now operational on mobile phones, tablets, and desktops. It serves several sectors, including banking, retail, and healthcare, through OCR Studio’s client base.
Incorporating AI for ID Recognition
ID document recognition has become essential in various industries such as banking, logistics, and border control. With the increasing reliance on mobile devices, these technologies must function efficiently even on resource-limited gadgets. Additionally, recognition models require a wide receptive field to maintain accuracy and handle distortions, noise, motion blur, and poor lighting in document images.
Most existing models with expansive receptive fields are too heavy for real-time document analysis on a mobile device. To address this challenge, OCR Studio developed IIRDoc-Net, which incorporates learnable Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filters to adjust the receptive field by integrating current inputs and past outputs.
Evaluations on the MIDV-500 and MIDV-2019 datasets showed that IIRDoc-Net achieved a 32% reduction in computational requirements compared to other methods. This technology is now integrated into OCR ID-scan, used by government, fintech, HR, and other services for automated document processing.
OCR Studio plans to present its findings about the IIRDoc-Net technology in a paper at an upcoming International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE) conference as part of their debut in such an international scientific forum.
New Developments from OCR Studio
In conjunction with the launch of IIRDoc-Net, OCR Studio introduced an Arabic ID document scanner for web browsers. This tool allows users to read Arabic passports and ID cards directly on Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and other supported browsers without transferring data from the user’s device. Tailored for corporate clients in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, this feature aims to provide a compliant and reliable solution for finance, government, healthcare, and retail industries.
