Next Biometrics has introduced a new sensor designed to meet the growing demand for secure and efficient identity verification solutions. The company’s goal is to streamline the integration of this module into point-of-sale terminals, tablets, and other devices.

Key Features of Next Biometrics’ Sensor

This latest sensor has been certified for use in India’s Aadhaar program and countries adopting the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) framework, which helps in reducing time-to-market.

Next Biometrics employs Active Thermal technology that combines heat from the finger with 3D imaging to enhance user authentication. This approach not only improves liveness detection but also enhances security against spoofing attacks compared to traditional fingerprint technologies. The sensor’s integrated hardware and software optimization contribute to a lower overall cost and better integration into various devices.

Since its inception in 2000, Next Biometrics has supplied over 10 million sensors, with its Active Thermal technology being certified by entities such as Aadhaar, FBI-PIV, MOSIP Compliance, and NIBSS. The company’s solutions are currently implemented in countries including Bangladesh, China, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the US, and Vietnam.

In January 2025, Next Biometrics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a new partner in India to focus on developing a biometric module specialized in liveness detection. The partnership aims to grow market presence on the dynamic Aadhaar L1 and MOSIP markets as well as other national ID programs.
