NatWest and Sainsbury’s have teamed up to provide financial services tailored for Sainsbury’s customers, especially those who are Nectar loyalty members.
This collaboration follows the acquisition of personal loans, credit cards, and retail deposits by NatWest from Sainsbury’s Bank in 2025. The new partnership will see both companies develop financial products using NatWest’s banking infrastructure. Nectar members can now benefit from favorable rates on savings accounts and personal loans.
Product Launches
Three key products are due to launch in the latter part of 2026. The first is a NatWest-branded Nectar credit card, issued through NatWest Retail. This card allows customers to earn Nectar points on everyday spending and provides bonus opportunities for additional rewards.
The other two products are instant access savings accounts and unsecured personal loans. These will be made available via Sainsbury’s digital platforms and will be driven by NatWest Boxed, the bank’s B2B Embedded Finance division.
This arrangement represents a growing trend in UK retail banking where banks offer financial infrastructure to non-financial brands, leveraging these companies’ extensive customer networks for distribution purposes. Specifically, NatWest Boxed functions as a wholesale provider of banking services, enabling organizations to introduce their own branded financial products or build stronger customer relationships.
Broader Strategy in Embedded Finance
NatWest has already secured similar arrangements with other companies. In 2025, it partnered with The AA for savings and personal loans services for its members, and with Saga to provide savings products aimed at customers aged over 50.
By combining these partnerships, NatWest is aiming to broaden its customer base beyond traditional banking channels. Additionally, integrating loyalty programs like Nectar can add a unique selling point to the services offered. Both parties hope this integration will foster greater product engagement and deepen existing customer connections.
