Mollie, a financial services provider based in the Netherlands with over 250,000 business clients across Europe, has recently unveiled Tap, its new solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in person in the UK.

The launch encompasses both a portable contactless payment terminal and an app that can be used on any NFC-enabled device such as smartphones or tablets to accept payments without requiring additional hardware.

This marks Mollie’s introduction of its proprietary payment terminal into the physical commerce space, complementing their existing online payment services under one platform for UK businesses.

Capabilities and Pricing

The Tap terminal accepts contactless card payments, digital wallets, and QR codes from a single device. It includes features like a front-facing NFC reader to facilitate easy tapping, 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a full-day battery life, and an Android-based system. Additional business tools include email or SMS-generated digital receipts, tipping capabilities, automated daily reports, and transaction history. Setup is straightforward with no complex installation required.

The Tap app offers SMEs the flexibility to start accepting payments on their mobile devices without initial hardware investment, with the option to upgrade to a dedicated terminal as needed. Both products are available on a pay-as-you-go basis or through a subscription plan with reduced transaction fees.

This UK launch is part of Mollie’s larger expansion plans in the region, aiming to support businesses operating both online and in physical locations.

In his comments on this development, Dave Smallwood, the UK and Ireland Managing Director at Mollie, noted that Tap provides the flexibility for UK businesses to accept payments wherever they operate, emphasizing it as a significant move towards strengthening Mollie’s presence in the UK market and supporting local business growth.
