Mollie has recently become a Principal Member of the European Payments Initiative (EPI) and will introduce its unified payment solution, Wero.
This development highlights Mollie’s commitment to facilitating secure and efficient pan-European payment experiences for both merchants and consumers. As a Principal Member, Mollie is expected to take a key role in connecting merchants to the Wero network and enabling them to accept Wero transactions through its platform.
Advancing Next-Generation Payment Solutions
EPI developed Wero with the goal of optimizing digital payments within Europe via a real-time, account-to-account payment system. The initiative seeks to replace various national payment solutions with a unified, secure, and modern infrastructure that benefits businesses and consumers in the European Union.
The integration of Wero into Mollie’s services is anticipated to enhance merchant adoption of this new payment method. Mollie merchants will be able to offer customers instant and secure payment experiences through Wero, alongside existing popular options.
The rollout of Wero is already underway in several countries, including Belgium, France, and Germany, for peer-to-peer payments. E-commerce acceptance is being progressively introduced. Businesses and merchants using Mollie can enable Wero payments easily via the existing Mollie dashboard, making it simple to adopt the new European standard with minimal technical effort.
In the region of Germany and Belgium, Wero will be available for Mollie merchants in the first half of 2026. France and Luxembourg are expected shortly after. In the Netherlands, the transition from iDEAL to Wero is scheduled to start late 2026, with completion by the end of 2027. A co-branded logo will be used temporarily during this period.
