Mews, a hospitality cloud provider, has partnered with Vingcard to integrate digital hotel room keys directly into guests’ smartphone wallets.

Eliminating the Need for Third-Party Apps or Middleware

Mews is one of the first property management systems (PMS) to offer a native wallet-based room access solution, aiming to enhance hotel automation and improve guest experiences. This innovation removes the necessity for third-party apps or middleware.

Guests can now securely store their hotel room keys in their smartphone’s wallet directly from their browser. A single tap allows them to unlock doors using their phone or compatible wearable device, eliminating the need for traditional key cards and separate app downloads.

Collaboration Between Vingcard and Mews

The integration of wallet-based digital keys is a result of collaboration between Vingcard, an ASSA ABLOY company, and Mews. This feature will be available to all properties with compatible door locks.

According to Mews’ research, over one-third of guests believe that a perfect hotel would include keyless room entry. Additionally, 70% of users would skip the front desk line entirely if given the chance. The new feature addresses these preferences by removing the hassle of bulky keys and waiting in line at the front desk, allowing guests to check in faster, receive their room keys through the guest portal, and proceed directly to their rooms without delay.

Hey Lou HOTELS Case Study

The first Mews customer to adopt this new wallet-based digital key solution is Hey Lou HOTELS. Guests can now unlock their rooms using keys stored in their smartphone wallets.

Implementing mobile access not only optimizes the guest experience but also lightens the operational load for hotel staff by reducing front desk queues and visits due to lost keys. This, in turn, allows teams to focus more on providing excellent customer service, while reduced key card handling enhances security and sustainability.
