J.P. Morgan Payments has unveiled an expanded B2B virtual card service in Europe, partnering with Mastercard.
This advancement introduces J.P. Morgan Payments’ comprehensive suite of virtual card tools to European businesses, with the aim of enhancing automated accounts payable processes and optimizing working capital management within sectors like insurance, healthcare, travel, and commercial real estate.
Having secured a dominant role in B2B virtual card services across North America as the leading provider of business cards, including virtual ones, J.P. Morgan Payments is now expanding its expertise to Europe, providing companies with tools for streamlining payment creation and reconciliation via virtual card networks.
Advancing travel industry operations
A key aspect of the European roll-out focuses on improving operational efficiency in the wholesale travel sector. Online travel agencies often grapple with complexities when handling payments for various service providers such as hotels, airlines, and car rental firms. Leveraging Mastercard’s Wholesale Programme, J.P. Morgan Payments aims to simplify these payment operations using virtual cards, offering faster and more secure transactions along with detailed reconciliation data that aids in managing business activities and fostering supplier relationships.
The initiative also incorporates the Mastercard B2B Supplier Enablement and Activation Service, a comprehensive solution intended to ease onboarding for both buyers and suppliers and facilitate the expansion of virtual card acceptance programs. This service tackles one of the main challenges in adopting B2B virtual cards—ensuring smooth supplier integration.
Karen Ions, Head of Commercial Card Client Management and Delivery at J.P. Morgan Payments, highlighted that virtual cards enhance payment clarity, security, and flexibility, especially beneficial for travel industry operations. She stated that the European expansion underscores J.P. Morgan Payments’ dedication to supporting clients in modernizing their payment processes globally.
In a related comment, Marc Pettican, Global Head of Corporate Solutions at Mastercard, emphasized that this partnership extends beyond issuing virtual cards; it aims to reduce complexities for both parties involved in B2B transactions through improved supplier enablement.
