Freedom Bank Kazakhstan JSC has incorporated international mobile connectivity into its Freedom SuperApp via an embedded eSIM miniapp.
This app was developed in collaboration with Boxo. It enables users to buy, activate, and manage mobile data plans directly within the banking application, without needing a physical SIM card or external service provider.
The eSIM offering includes both fixed-data packages and unlimited data options, valid for up to 30 days. Users can instantly enable an eSIM, track usage, switch plans, and refill their balance through the Freedom SuperApp. This feature is particularly beneficial for frequent travelers or those working across borders who need reliable mobile internet access in different countries.
Freedom Bank operates under Freedom Holding Corp., a Nasdaq-listed financial group active in 22 countries. The SuperApp serves as the primary digital interface for the corporation, uniting banking, investment services, insurance, lending products, travel tools, and third-party services.
Enhancing Non-Financial Services Within the SuperApp
The addition of mobile connectivity broadens the functionality of the Freedom SuperApp beyond typical financial purposes. Previously, Freedom Bank Kazakhstan JSC has centered on digitalizing retail financial products such as online mortgages and vehicle financing. The latest development supports their strategy of incorporating everyday digital services into a single application to reduce dependency on multiple providers for payments and connectivity.
According to representatives from Freedom Bank Kazakhstan JSC, the goal is to consolidate key travel and daily use services within one app, thereby decreasing reliance on separate companies for payment and communication needs.
The eSIM functionality is driven by Boxo’s embedded miniapp platform. Boxo supplies the necessary software development kit that allows digital platforms to integrate services such as eSIMs, travel utilities, and payments through a single technical interface. Additionally, Boxo handles telecom partnerships, plan delivery, settlement processes, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
