In early 2026, Zippay, a new peer-to-peer (P2P) mobile payment service, plans to enter the Irish market in collaboration with Nexi.

The product will be made available initially through AIB, Bank of Ireland, and PTSB, as an in-app feature offered within customers’ existing mobile banking applications.

Utilizing Nexi’s technological infrastructure, Zippay will enable users to send, request, or split payments instantly by using the mobile numbers of their contacts who are also utilizing the solution. These financial institutions will continue to prioritize meeting the needs and preferences of clients while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Zippay’s Launch Strategy

According to the official press release, Zippay is developed on an API-based architecture for scalability and future expansion, aiming to make it widely available across Ireland. Nexi will manage the integration process for eligible financial institutions (FIs) that wish to join the service.

Banks such as AIB, Bank of Ireland, and PTSB are expected to offer a quick, secure, and easy way for their customers to send and receive money or split bills with Zippay users. This will be delivered through existing mobile banking apps without requiring the need to top up a digital wallet or download a separate app.

Eligible users will automatically be enrolled in Zippay once the service is launched, and it will use the mobile numbers saved in their contact list to identify other Zippay users. Setting up new payees or knowing specific account details like IBAN, BIC, or account numbers will not be necessary.
