Flutterwave, an African payments technology firm, has recently revamped its remittance platform, Send App. This update is being rolled out across various U.S. states following the acquisition of 20 new Money Transfer Licenses (MTLs).

Enhanced License Holdings

Following this development, Flutterwave now possesses a total of 34 direct MTLs. These licenses enable the company to operate in multiple U.S. states and territories without needing partners or intermediaries.

As a result, users from DC, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, and Tennessee can now send money directly to Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt via the Send App. The app’s enhanced features include:

  • Augmented payment support for US-issued Visa and Discover cards;
  • Strengthened security measures ensuring transaction safety and compliance;
  • Optimized in-app processes for a smoother sending experience.

Beyond these specific states, the app also supports outward remittances from other U.S. states such as Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Flutterwave is committed to improving the financial landscape for millions of Africans in the U.S. who can now send money back home to support their families and contribute to economic development on the continent. In 2024, Africa received over USD 95 billion in remittances, with Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco being major recipients.

Expanding Presence Across Africa

Apart from its U.S. expansion, Flutterwave is also expanding into new African territories, aiming to provide more financial solutions across the continent. In 2025, it secured a digital payment license in Cameroon and launched remittance services in Ghana.
