Fiserv and Western Alliance Bank have entered into a partnership where Fiserv’s commerce and business management technology, including the Clover point-of-sale platform, will be made available to clients of Western Alliance Bank.

This partnership marks Fiserv’s largest agent bank partnership by asset size and is expected to increase its regional presence in the western United States.

Western Alliance Bank caters to a diverse range of businesses, from small enterprises to large national companies. Through this collaboration, Western Alliance Bank will be able to offer merchant payment technology through various channels—store-based, online, and mobile—without needing to develop its own proprietary infrastructure.

Strategic Rationale and Market Positioning

These types of partnerships allow financial institutions like Western Alliance Bank to offer enhanced payment acceptance capabilities without investing in their own merchant technology. For Fiserv, this arrangement provides a means to distribute its merchant solutions more widely through an existing commercial banking client base, particularly in geographic areas where growth is desired.

Moreover, the partnership fits into a broader trend among US regional and commercial banks of increasing their payments and commerce technology offerings as clients increasingly demand integrated financial tools. Western Alliance Bank has established itself as a specialist in complex commercial industries, and the Fiserv collaboration aligns with this focus by extending its services into payments infrastructure.

Commenting on the partnership, Chris Foskett, Vice Chairman at Fiserv, highlighted that it brings proven, scalable commerce capabilities to businesses requiring reliability and performance. Steve Curley, Chief Banking Officer of National Business Lines at Western Alliance Bank, added that this collaboration will enable the bank to support businesses with secure, modern payment technology while maintaining its strong personal relationship approach.
