Experian and OpenAI have introduced the UK’s first credit score application integrated within ChatGPT, enabling users to compare anonymised, aggregated Experian credit scores by postcode area and age group.
This app has been developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Users can access it directly through the ChatGPT interface by tagging ‘@Experian UK’.
The application leverages Experian’s credit score dataset to highlight local and demographic benchmarks, illustrating how typical scores vary across different postcodes and age groups. All data used is anonymised and aggregated, ensuring individual credit information remains private.
Users can access the tool by connecting via the Experian app on iOS or Android before incorporating it into their ChatGPT conversations. Additionally, the service offers a sign-up pathway for those wanting to view their personal Experian credit score.
Strategic Considerations
This launch aligns with Experian’s broader strategy of distributing its credit data through third-party AI platforms. The company pointed out that the demographic profile of ChatGPT users (with over half being between 18 and 34 years old) influenced the timing, as younger adults are among those least likely to check their credit score.
By positioning this product within financial inclusion goals, Experian aims to address the issue that approximately 92% of UK adults exhibit low financial capability. This launch marks the initial step in Experian’s plan to deploy its data across AI platforms, although no specific timeline or additional platforms were mentioned in the announcement.
