Ebury has obtained about GBP 550 million in financing, with Centerbridge Partners leading the investment. Santander holds a significant share of 55%.

This funding is spearheaded by Centerbridge Partners, with contributions from Santander, Vitruvian Partners, and 83North.

Santander will inject GBP 50 million into the deal and maintain its dominant ownership stake at 55%, continuing to leverage Ebury as a key player in the SME cross-border payments arena. The transactions are scheduled for two closings, contingent upon regulatory approvals, with completion anticipated by the first quarter of 2027.

The funds will be utilized for scaling operations, launching new products, and exploring markets beyond current boundaries. A segment of the proceeds will also enhance AI tools in payment processing and foreign exchange optimization.

Impact on Santander’s Structure and Finances

Post-completion, Santander will switch to an equity-method accounting approach for its 55% holding, leading to the exclusion of Ebury’s revenues and expenses from the parent company’s consolidated financial reports. The transactions are estimated to add roughly four basis points of Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital at the group level, with minimal impact on Santander’s income statement.

This investment underscores ongoing investor interest in cross-border payment systems tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises. Historically, these businesses have faced challenges due to regulatory requirements, multi-currency operations, and real-time processing needs, limiting competition among less capitalized platforms. Ebury stands out with its broad reach across 30 markets and a robust technology platform.

The addition of Centerbridge Partners as an investor brings new institutional backing alongside existing growth-focused partners. Company officials highlighted the ongoing development of digital money infrastructure and improved payment processes as key factors supporting future expansion.
