Belgium-based app Doccle has announced its readiness to process the first invoice payment through Wero, a European payment solution.
Bridging the gap for digital payments in Europe
The move marks an important milestone towards offering efficient and secure cross-border payment solutions across Europe. Bram Lerouge, CEO of Doccle, highlighted that this initiative makes it easier for users to switch to Wero, particularly those who may not use payment apps frequently.
Scaling up with Wero
In 2015, Doccle was one of the pioneering companies to enable invoice payments via an integrated payment button. Now, as a leader in the industry, Doccle has become the first company in Belgium to process Wero payments for invoices.
This step underscores the significant potential of the new European payment standard, which is expected to enhance efficiency and support instant cross-border payments within familiar administrative environments.
Collaborative effort
The realization of the Wero payment involved close collaboration with KBC Bank, payment company Buckaroo, and the European Payments Initiative (EPI). Funded by several banks including Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, and KBC, EPI introduced Wero as a new European payment application. The success of Doccle is seen as a crucial next step in the ecommerce launch of the system across Belgium.
Phased rollout strategy
The first official Wero payment within the Doccle environment for ecommerce took place on December 2, 2025, with representatives from 50 large companies present. This marked the formal beginning of the European introduction of Wero in invoicing processes for ecommerce.
The broader public launch of Wero for ecommerce in Belgium is expected to occur in the first half of 2026, following which the payment method will gradually become available to all Doccle users for invoice payments.
