DBS Bank and TenPay Global have introduced a cross-border service that allows DBS customers to send money instantly to Weixin Pay, the digital RMB wallet within Weixin and WeChat.
With the help of DBS Remit in DBS digibank, users can transfer funds directly to recipients’ Weixin Pay Wallet Balance or linked bank cards without any fees. This service was launched just before the Chinese New Year, when remittances to China usually increase by 30%.
DBS is one of the first regional banks to establish a direct connection with Weixin Pay, facilitating cross-border money transfer from multiple markets. TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payment platform, currently supports remittances from over 100 countries and regions to Weixin Pay.
Integrating DBS PayLah with Weixin Pay
DBS and TenPay Global are working together to enable seamless connectivity between DBS PayLah and Weixin Pay. More than three million users of DBS PayLah will be able to make payments by scanning Weixin Pay QR codes or presenting their own QR codes at merchants across the Chinese mainland, thereby broadening acceptance for various travel, living, and business needs.
Users can add recipients via the overseas transfer function of DBS digibank by entering the recipient’s Weixin or WeChat registered phone number, address, and relationship details. A 12-hour cooling period applies before the first payment. After this period, users select the recipient, input the amount and purpose, and send the payment instantly.
Sanjoy Sen, Group Head of DBS Consumer Bank, mentioned that the bank has seen consistent double-digit year-on-year growth in cross-border transfers to China through DBS Remit. The partnership with TenPay Global provides customers a reliable and fee-free method for instant money transfer.
