Cashfree Payments introduced Agentic Payments, a system that facilitates end-to-end transactions through chat interfaces. This solution was unveiled during the Global Fintech Fest 2025 and distinguishes Cashfree as an early adopter in India by merging conversational AI with payment infrastructure to create an integrated experience. The technology permits merchants’ AI agents to manage every aspect of the shopping journey—from product discovery and recommendation to checkout—without redirecting customers to external pages or payment gateways.
Mitigating checkout obstacles through chat-based payments
Operating via Cashfree’s Merchant Conversation Platform (MCP), Agentic Payments streamlines transactions using tools like UPI Reserve Pay, biometric card authentication, and device tokenisation. This ensures a seamless transaction flow without the need for separate checkout pages, enhancing user experience by maintaining continuity within the chat.
According to industry estimates, up to 70% of online transactions in India can be abandoned due to checkout challenges, especially in environments where users anticipate quick and direct interactions. Embedding payments directly into conversations aims to alleviate these issues while complying with Reserve Bank of India regulations and data protection standards.
Cashfree’s representative highlighted the launch as a step forward towards a commerce environment where AI not only interacts with customers but also executes secure and intelligent transactions. The company, which is authorised by the Reserve Bank of India as a payment aggregator, handles billions in annual transactions for businesses across various sectors.
