BVNK has obtained a Crypto-Asset Services Provider (CASP) licence from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.
This development will allow BVNK to provide MiCA-regulated digital asset services throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).
The CASP licence complements two existing licenses that BVNK holds: an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence, also issued in Malta, and direct access to the EU’s Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) scheme through the Bank of Lithuania’s CENTROlink system. Together, these three licenses enable BVNK to offer a seamless and regulated pathway for EUR payments and stablecoin settlement within a single operational environment.
A unified regulatory framework for European operations
MiCA became applicable in December 2024, introducing harmonized licensing and operational standards for crypto-asset service providers across the entire EU. With authorization under MiCA, firms can “passport” their services throughout the bloc without needing separate national licenses, offering significant operational advantages to businesses operating at scale.
Malta has been a frontrunner in digital asset regulation within the EU, establishing national frameworks before the full implementation of MiCA. The MFSA’s role as the licensing authority places it among early regulators under the harmonized regime for CASP authorizations.
An official from BVNK stated that securing this licence bolsters the company’s presence in Europe, reflecting its commitment to compliance and governance across the region. With this new regulatory foundation, BVNK is well-positioned to serve enterprise clients needing compliant access to both traditional EUR payment systems and stablecoin settlement within the European market.
