Blink Payment, a UK-based payment technology company, recently introduced a Card Present API designed for software vendors who wish to incorporate in-person payment acceptance into their applications without building proprietary infrastructure.
This cloud-based API aims to streamline the integration process and reduce the technical complexity associated with adding card present functionality. It is intended specifically for Integrated Software Vendor (ISV) partners looking to expand their offerings with minimal development timelines.
Terminal Management and Setup
The API facilitates terminal setup, connectivity, and ongoing support once integrated into an ISV’s system. Traditionally, developing in-house card present solutions requires significant efforts in integration, terminal configuration, compliance obligations, and maintenance. By leveraging Blink’s infrastructure, ISVs can focus on maintaining branded payment experiences within their platforms without handling these technical responsibilities themselves.
The solution currently supports two Verifone Android-based terminals: the T650p and P630 models. These terminals are configured and connected through Blink’s platform, streamlining the setup process for merchants who would otherwise need to establish relationships with hardware providers directly.
Real-Time Reporting and Omnichannel Functionality
The API offers real-time transaction reporting, filling a gap in traditional card present processing where transactions typically require one to three business days before becoming visible. This immediate access to data is expected to enhance reconciliation processes and operational decision-making for businesses handling high volumes of transactions.
The platform integrates online and in-person payment channels into a unified report. Transactions from both channels will be displayed simultaneously within the ISV’s application and Blink’s merchant portal, eliminating the need for separate reconciliation procedures for different payment methods.
Blink Payment was established in 2012 and currently provides payment acceptance technology supporting various methods including open banking, payment links, virtual terminals, and API integrations. The new Card Present API further extends its capabilities to cover physical retail environments.
