American Express has broadened its UK airline coverage with the addition of Wizz Air. This move now allows cardholders to use their American Express cards for bookings and in-flight purchases.

The integration ensures that Amex cardholders can make payments directly on Wizz Air’s website and mobile application, enhancing convenience during travel. According to the company, promotional deals tied to Wizz Air purchases will be available through the Amex Offers platform soon.

Wizz Air, which serves more than 70 million passengers annually across over 800 routes in both established and emerging markets, has decided to accept American Express as part of its efforts to provide better convenience for passengers. This is especially beneficial for frequent business travelers who often use Amex.

Amex’s Wider Acceptance Strategy

The partnership with Wizz Air follows a broader strategy by American Express to expand acceptance in the UK across various transport modes. Beyond air travel, Amex has secured payment acceptance with major rail operators and Transport for London’s contactless network.

In recent months, agreements have been reached with Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, allowing tap-and-go payments on regional bus and tram services in parts of Surrey, Sussex, and Kent. American Express representatives noted that the Wizz Air agreement is part of a wider momentum in accepting UK merchants.

Both companies highlighted practical benefits from this collaboration. A representative from Wizz Air mentioned that adding Amex as an option caters to corporate travelers who frequently use the card for travel expenses.
