The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) and Ant International have announced their plans to introduce cross-border QR code payments between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s mada and Alipay+ in 2026.

Supporting Digitization and Inclusive Growth

By launching these cross-border QR code payments, SAMA and Ant International aim to support digital transformation and inclusive economic growth for local merchants. This initiative will allow merchants in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to accept international payment partners through Alipay+.

Fostering Economic Growth Through Tourism

Ant International’s and SAMA’s collaboration aligns with the goals set out in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The move is expected to enhance payment connectivity, support tourism growth, and position the region as a global tourist destination. Given that tourism significantly contributes to economic development and cultural exchange, both organizations are working towards creating more opportunities for local businesses while also improving experiences for international travelers.

Recent Developments in Saudi Arabia

Ant International has been active in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2025. The company obtained a PTSP certificate for its unified payment solution, Antom, from SAMA and opened its first Middle East office in Riyadh. These actions deepen Ant International’s commitment to the region and contribute to promoting QR payments locally.

In addition to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ant International has integrated Alipay+ with national payment schemes in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Cambodia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
