Visa and TikTok Partnership for Creator Payment

Visa and TikTok have introduced a new “creator card” aimed at addressing the primary challenge in the creator economy: timely payments.

The debit card, initially launching in the UK, enables creators to convert TikTok Live gifts into income and access funds more smoothly via a dedicated business account.

“This collaboration is designed to speed up creators’ receipt of funds,” said Ben Danner, Senior Debit Analyst at Javelin Strategy & Research. “Maintaining separate business expenses from personal ones is also an added benefit, as creators often use their personal accounts for their TikTok businesses.”

Responding to Creator Economy Needs

The sudden growth of the creator economy has prompted financial services providers like PayPal to enhance their payment infrastructure. For instance, PayPal recently launched a feature for Canva’s 265 million users that allows them to design content and accept payments all in one place.

Previously, many Canva users had to set up separate websites or storefronts for transactions—often at high costs. These payment issues are common; according to a Visa-commissioned study, nearly half of UK content creators stated late or inconsistent payments significantly impacted their business operations.

TikTok Expanding Financial Footprint

As part of its expansion, TikTok is increasing its financial presence. In China, its sister platform has launched Douyin Pay, a digital wallet for in-app transactions. Additionally, TikTok has applied for licenses in Brazil to hold user funds and potentially offer lending services.

These moves position TikTok at the intersection of social media, e-commerce, and fintech, appealing particularly to younger adults who are increasingly turning into business owners within the creator economy.
