Mastercard and Dappre have intensified their partnership to utilize Open Finance technology for facilitating automatic micro-donations via everyday transactions.

As part of this arrangement, Dappre’s application enables users to automatically allocate small amounts during purchases at participating local stores. Utilizing Mastercard Open Finance, transaction data is securely and instantly shared, eliminating the need for manual verification. This setup ensures that regular payment activities contribute systematically and repeatedly to community organizations.

Integrating donations into daily shopping

According to the official press release, for local businesses, involvement in Dappre’s network offers a way to showcase their dedication to community causes while preserving current payment channels. Every transaction directly supports locally selected initiatives, enhancing the connection between merchants and socially responsible customers without necessitating additional actions from either party.

This structure is designed to integrate charitable giving into the existing payments framework, making it measurable and scalable rather than treating it as a separate or occasional activity. Clubs, associations, and foundations receive accumulated funds on a monthly basis from both supporters and participating merchants.

Mastercard Open Finance facilitates this underlying data sharing mechanism. Open Finance platforms, which extend the principles of open banking to include non-account data, enable services like Dappre to access and utilize transaction data with consumer consent, all while adhering to relevant data protection and financial regulations.

The Netherlands has been a key market for both open banking and Open Finance development within the European Union’s regulatory framework. The existing infrastructure established by frameworks like PSD2 supports Dappre’s social impact-oriented model rather than focusing purely on financial services.

This collaboration aligns with a broader trend where payment networks are employed for non-financial objectives, such as charitable giving, community development, and measuring social impacts. For Mastercard, the partnership with Dappre expands its Open Finance strategy beyond traditional financial uses into areas of community engagement.

Financial details surrounding this collaboration were not disclosed.
