Nexi Group has struck a deal with both local and national banks in Denmark to offer SEPA Direct Debit (SDD) services, expanding the Italy-based payment technology firm’s presence within the Danish market.

Enhancing Danish Banking’s SEPA Connectivity

Nexi will supply the necessary infrastructure and operational services to facilitate SDD collections, enabling participating Danish banks to integrate with European clearing systems. This partnership aims to provide a scalable solution for Danish banking institutions.

Under this agreement, Nexi will handle the technical aspects involved in processing direct debit transactions on behalf of the Danish banks, ensuring they can manage their SEPA participation without maintaining independent connections. Both the Association of Local Banks and Savings Banks in Denmark and National Banks & BOKIS, representing nationwide banks, are part of this initiative.

Accessing SEPA infrastructure is crucial for Danish banks to support cross-border euro transactions on behalf of their customers, despite using the Danish krone as their domestic currency. The arrangement supports the competitiveness of participating banks and enhances their ability to service Euro-based transactions for their clients.

The agreement builds upon Nexi’s existing collaboration with Danish financial institutions, which already covers card and payment services including international card acceptance and support for the domestic Dankort scheme. This new SDD deal further integrates Danish banking into the broader European payments infrastructure through a single provider model.

This partnership aligns with a broader trend observed in smaller European markets where banks increasingly depend on third-party payment providers to comply with SEPA requirements without incurring the costs of building independent clearing networks.
