Emirates NBD Egypt has launched Apple Pay, offering its customers contactless payments through their iPhones and Apple Watches, as well as within apps and online for various purchases.
For authentication during transactions, cardholders can use Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode. Each payment is processed using a one-time dynamic security code, ensuring that no card details are stored on the device or Apple’s servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned and securely stored within a certified Secure Element chip.
Scope of acceptance and setup
Apple Pay can be utilized at numerous point-of-sale locations such as grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, taxis, and retail shops. It also supports payments for food delivery services, online shopping, transportation, and parking through apps and Safari on iOS devices without requiring new accounts or repeat entry of shipping and billing details.
To activate Apple Pay, Emirates NBD cardholders can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the plus (+) button, and follow the instructions to link their credit or debit cards. Once registered, the card becomes accessible on all linked Apple devices including Apple Watch. Rewards and benefits associated with the cards are maintained when used through Apple Pay.
To encourage adoption of digital payment methods, Emirates NBD Egypt is providing 50% cashback to all its cardholders as part of this initiative.
Alignment with digital economy goals
This launch supports Egypt’s efforts to enhance electronic payment infrastructure and aligns with the nation’s Vision 2030 plan aimed at building a fully integrated digital economy. Emirates NBD Egypt views Apple Pay as part of its strategy to ensure that its digital banking services meet global standards.
This move reflects a broader trend across the region where financial institutions are incorporating device-native payment solutions, driven by increasing consumer demands for security and convenience in both physical and online transactions.
