BBVA has rolled out a conversational app within ChatGPT, providing users in Germany and Italy direct access to detailed information about bank products and services.

In line with this announcement, BBVA introduced its conversational application into the ChatGPT platform for German and Italian customers. This innovation enables them to inquire about banking offerings using natural language, without needing to exit the assistant interface. The initiative marks one of the first steps among financial institutions to incorporate a dedicated app within ChatGPT.

The application is tailored to address informational queries, allowing users to review and contrast account statuses, card options, and savings products available through BBVA’s digital banks in both countries. The conversations integrate direct links to relevant product pages on the bank’s website for further exploration. Users can access this app by either searching for “BBVA” within the Apps section of ChatGPT or via a designated link. Once connected, users can engage with the app directly through prompts like ‘@BBVA App’ or select it from the chat input menu.

An Element of BBVA’s Broader AI Strategy

According to an official press release, the launch is part of BBVA’s ongoing strategic partnership with OpenAI. This collaboration aims at developing AI-driven solutions that enhance customer-centric financial services and boost operational efficiency. The bank positions this initiative under its internal framework, ‘The Eight’, focusing on transforming the banking experience through AI.

BBVA anticipates that the current functionality, limited to informational queries, will expand over time into a more comprehensive digital assistant capable of supporting financial decision-making via personalized conversations.

This move aligns with an increasing trend among financial institutions to integrate their services into third-party conversational platforms. By embedding within ChatGPT, BBVA seeks to engage users where they already spend time online, thereby minimizing the friction in discovering and exploring banking products.

For BBVA’s digital banking units in Italy and Germany, this deployment underscores a continued commitment to digital-first distribution models. These markets operate under BBVA’s Group digital banking model, and the integration with ChatGPT represents an additional step towards making these entities leading technology-driven operations within the larger group.

Currently, the app’s capabilities are geared primarily toward exploration and comparison, offering personalized responses, related product options, and curated questions based on what other customers have asked. This design indicates that the tool is intended mainly as a discovery and engagement platform rather than a full-fledged banking interface.
