GoTyme Bank has announced that Apple Pay will soon be available to its South African users, further enhancing the digital wallet options for iOS device holders.
This expansion comes as part of GoTyme’s plan to align its offerings with those currently supported on other devices, such as Samsung Pay, Google Wallet, and Garmin Pay. The bank aims to address a significant gap in its services that has affected iPhone users up until now.
The new feature is part of an ongoing app update strategy launched by GoTyme Bank earlier this year. A phased approach is being employed to ensure smooth security and performance, with Apple Pay set for release shortly after the launch on January 2026. Other upcoming capabilities include in-app chat services and support for Huawei devices.
Growth and Strategy
The broader context highlights the rapid growth of digital wallet usage in South Africa, driven by an increasing smartphone adoption rate among consumers. GoTyme Bank sees this as a strategic move to capture market share and provide users with secure, convenient payment options.
By integrating biometric authentication for transactions, the bank hopes to offer a robust security measure that complements its commitment to regulatory compliance and user privacy.
