Perfios has secured Offline Verification Seeking Entity certification from India’s Unique Identification Authority, joining a select group of 17 certified companies in the country.

Following this achievement, Perfios, an Indian software company, has received certification to operate as an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) under the UIDAI.

Offline Verification Capabilities

The official press release explains that an OVSE is a registered organisation with UIDAI authorised to verify an individual’s identity through Aadhaar QR codes or the mAadhaar application. This verification process does not rely on connecting to UIDAI’s central database, providing organisations with the ability to conduct identity checks independently.

This offline approach enables verification based on digitally signed data embedded in Aadhaar QR codes, requiring user consent and ensuring no transmission of verification requests to UIDAI servers, thus addressing data privacy concerns during identity authentication processes.

Officials from Perfios state that this certification will bolster the company’s role in India’s digital identity infrastructure. The offline verification system is expected to facilitate paperless Know Your Customer (KYC) processes across various sectors, including finance, hospitality, and education.

Technical and Regulatory Context

The Aadhaar system managed by UIDAI serves as a biometric identification framework for both government and private sector services in India. The introduction of the offline verification model aims to lessen dependency on constant connectivity with central databases while maintaining authentication standards.

To obtain OVSE certification, organisations must meet specific technical and security criteria set forth by UIDAI. The limited number of certified entities underscores the stringent regulatory framework governing access to offline verification capabilities.

Operating as a B2B software provider in India’s financial technology sector, Perfios offers data aggregation and analytics services. This OVSE certification is anticipated to broaden the company’s identity verification offerings, catering to financial institutions and other organisations that require robust customer authentication solutions.

The offline framework has been designed to lower dropout rates during digital onboarding processes by simplifying user interaction requirements. Its consent-based model aligns with data protection regulations in India governing the handling of personal information.
