Atome has expanded its app’s functionality in Singapore, enabling users to make purchases in Malaysia directly from the platform.
After this development, Atome Singapore users can now conduct transactions at over 15,000 retail stores in Malaysia by simply scanning QR codes during checkout.
MYR transactions are converted into SGD based on a displayed exchange rate before payment, and purchases are broken down into three interest-free installments. Users also earn reward points for their Malaysian spending through Atome’s loyalty program.
Cross-border tourism and retail activities
The service rollout coincides with Singapore being Malaysia’s top foreign tourist source. In 2024, Singapore welcomed 18.9 million visitors to Malaysia, marking a 27% year-over-year increase, primarily spending on categories like shopping, accommodation, and food.
Further boosting cross-border movement are ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, and the development of the Singapore-Johor Special Economic Zone.
This expansion means Atome Singapore users can now enjoy shopping experiences in various Malaysian cities like Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and Penang. The app is also available at numerous retail outlets across Malaysia, including:
- Electronics: Machines, Switch, Oppo, Samsung, Xiaomi, Garmin, Honor
- Fashion/lifestyle: Christy Ng, Coach, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Montigo
- Beauty/wellness: Sasa, Bath & Body Works, Jean Yip, Mothercare
- Sports: Nike, JD Sports, Decathlon, Foot Locker, Converse, Timberland
Atome is committed to meeting the evolving needs of its clients and users while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
