Fiserv has announced a new strategic alliance with Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company to introduce Fiserv’s Clover suite of products to Japan.
This collaboration is designed to provide an integrated payments and business management platform for retail, food & beverage, and professional service small businesses (SMBs) in Japan. The partnership aims to drive digital transformation, enhance operational efficiency, and accelerate the adoption of cashless payments.
Expected to launch by late 2026, the Clover suite is set to be customized for Japan’s business environment and align with the country’s goal of reaching a 65% share of cashless payments by 2030. The platform will also offer multi-store support, mobile operations through smartphones, and centralized management tools to help small businesses modernize their operations and participate more deeply in Japan’s digital economy.
Expanding Fiserv’s Asia-Pacific Presence with Comprehensive Commerce Services
The partnership aims to simplify operations and support growth for SMBs, as outlined in the official press release. This initiative is a critical step towards expanding global reach and enabling businesses of all sizes to succeed in the evolving commerce landscape. Both companies will continue to prioritize meeting customer needs while ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements.
Through this collaboration, Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company is expected to enhance its offerings for small and medium-sized businesses, helping them develop and better serve their customers. By combining SMCC’s expertise in promoting the cashless economy with Fiserv’s optimized technology, the partnership seeks to create new growth opportunities.
This entry into Japan is part of Fiserv’s broader international expansion strategy, following recent launches of Clover solutions in Brazil and Australia.
