The UK’s Post Office has entered into a five-year agreement to continue managing approximately 200 banking hubs, working alongside local branch owners.

This initiative seeks to preserve access to cash in regions where bank branches have closed or service is scarce. The PO Banking Hubs are run in collaboration with a local PO branch owner and financially supported by Cash Access UK, an organization backed by high-street banks.

Financial inclusion through banking hubs

The Post Office believes that more PO Banking Hubs could be established under the leadership of postmasters, who already provide daily cash services in their post office branches. The success of these hubs hinges on the involvement of postmasters as they are deeply rooted within their local communities and possess expertise in delivering face-to-face banking solutions.

The beginning of this agreement comes after the Post Office reached a deal with 30 of the UK’s largest banks, referred to as Banking Framework 4, to ensure higher earnings for PO branch owners. In return, postmasters will enhance customer service quality.

In recent news, the Post Office selected Western Union as its exclusive provider for international money transfer services at its branches, thereby expanding access to these solutions across the UK. This move bolsters the commercial offerings for both postmasters and their partners, contributing to better traffic and service opportunities for branches.

As it stands, the Post Office will continue to address the evolving needs of clients while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and laws.
