Worldpay has introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a freely accessible set of server specifications and tools aimed at supporting AI-driven payment integration and agentic commerce.
This solution is available on Worldpay’s Developer Hub and GitHub, where developers and retailers can download, modify, and deploy the protocol to create AI agents and direct payment integrations with Worldpay’s API.
Model Context Protocol
The launch of MCP follows a shift in consumer expectations towards more autonomous, AI-powered experiences. According to recent data, 44% of American shoppers are willing to engage with an AI bot for browsing and purchasing purposes. This trend signifies the move towards commerce where AI assists in searches and transactions.
Worldpay MCP is intended to foster advancements in agentic commerce by enabling AI-driven transactions and optimizing payment flows. By doing so, businesses can offer personalized and efficient shopping experiences for their customers.
MCP is free and open-source, allowing users to integrate the protocol into their technology without licensing fees or proprietary constraints. This simplifies AI agent integration and facilitates payment infrastructure testing, reducing complexity in the integration process and accelerating time to market while ensuring interoperability and scalability across evolving AI ecosystems.
Designed for direct connection with Worldpay’s global payments APIs, MCP ensures secure payment processing for select merchants worldwide. Supported by the company’s extensive reach and infrastructure, developers can test and experiment with AI agents in a secure environment before deploying to production.
With agentic commerce emerging as the next phase of online shopping, Worldpay MCP is aimed at meeting the needs of both developers and merchants. It provides them with the flexibility to develop solutions in a controlled environment, directly connecting with Worldpay’s global payment infrastructure to ensure protocols work seamlessly for sellers.
