Luxembourg Banks Partner with Wero for Instant Payments

Six banks in Luxembourg—Spuerkeess, BGL BNP Paribas, BIL, POST Luxembourg, and Banque Raiffeisen—are collaborating to introduce the new Wero wallet along with an instant person-to-person (P2P) payment solution. This initiative is supported by LUXHUB, which acts as a technical service provider to facilitate the smooth implementation.

CUSTOMERS can now access EPI’s services through the standalone Wero app, offering them seamless P2P payments within Luxembourg and across borders to Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to provide a single payment solution for all Europeans.

According to STATEC data, Luxembourg plays a crucial role in cross-border transactions due to its significant international workforce, making up nearly half of the total population. Once deployed, users will be able to utilize various payment use cases including e-commerce, point-of-sale (POS) transactions, and invoice payments.

Starting from early 2025, an increasing number of banks, acquirers, and technical service providers across Europe are integrating Wero into their offerings. Future updates for the platform include plans to expand e-commerce payment capabilities in late 2025 and introduce in-store payments, subscription management, and loyalty programs in 2026.

Payconiq Transitioning to Wero

In 2026, merchants in Luxembourg will start accepting Wero payments through the new platform. As a result of EPI’s acquisition plans for Payconiq announced earlier in 2023, this transition is being phased in to ensure a smooth shift from Payconiq to Wero.

During the migration period, merchants can connect their businesses directly with customers using Wero. By the end of the transition, which is scheduled for September 2026, all existing Payconiq users will be fully converted to Wero.
