Kazakhstan has recently integrated cross-border QR code payments through a partnership between Alipay+ and the local super app Kaspi.kz.

This collaboration allows visitors from 12 international payment services, linked to Alipay+, to use their mobile wallets via Kaspi QR at various merchants across the country. These venues range from shopping centers and restaurants to healthcare providers and small businesses in rural areas.

The introduction of this service is timely, as Kazakhstan saw an increase in foreign visitors, with 7.5 million recorded international tourists during the first half of 2025. Travelers from China, Germany, and South Korea are among the largest groups, who can now make payments in their native currencies through supported wallets.

Enhancement of Existing Partnership

Alipay+ and Kaspi.kz have previously collaborated to enable mobile payments for Kazakhstani users abroad. Kaspi officials state that residents are already using the app for purchases in countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and several European nations.

Ant International representatives highlighted that the new service aims to connect international payment partners with local merchants while expanding on Kaspi QR’s existing network. The initiative is designed to enhance travel convenience and support the growth of Kazakhstan’s tourism sector.

Kaspi.kz, listed on Nasdaq since early 2024, operates consumer and merchant super apps in Kazakhstan. In January 2025, it acquired a majority stake in Turkish e-commerce firm Hepsiburada.

Alipay+ connects over 1.7 billion user accounts from 36 global payment partners to more than 100 million merchants across 70 markets.
